Arvas, Abdulhamit. "Early Modern Eunuchs and the Transing of Gender and Race." Journal for Early Modern Cultural Studies 19, no. 4 (2019): 116-36.
Investigates early modern representations of eunuchs both at the Ottoman court and on the English stage. The essay argues that “eunuch” represents a distinct gender category for the early modern world, and that the category gestures towards the mutually constitutive relationship between gender and race. The work is of interest to students of Ottoman studies, English literature, early modern studies, and gender.
